Ever since ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ we’ve seen Dave Filoni making a name for himself in that wonderful franchise set in a galaxy far, far away. From his work on ‘Star Wars: Rebels‘, ‘Star Wars: Resistance‘, and his upcoming live-action debut with ‘The Mandalorian’ we have seen this creator intimately involved in quite a few aspects of the “Star Wars” universe. However, thanks to a recent interview with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, it appears that Filoni’s input into the franchise could be stronger than a Skywalker’s connection to the force.

Apparently, she’s been consulting with George Lucas‘s other protege on almost every aspect of the franchise in recent years. According to Kennedy:

“There isn’t a thing that we do in the storytelling space that I don’t check with Dave. What I find about Dave is you don’t just sit down and have a discussion about plot or review characters inside the Star Wars world. You end up having meaningful, thoughtful discussions about what it is we’re trying to say inside the storytelling. He has a lot of empathy.”

Filoni’s place in the world of “Star Wars” has come a long way since his work on the first “Clone Wars” film and his ability to bring some of the best stories in the franchise to life in an animated format has been a testament to his skill and a treat for fans. When speaking of Filoni, Lucas himself once said the main advice he gave to him was “to stay open-minded and realize that there’s still a lot to learn. There’s always something to learn.”

This is advice that Filoni has clearly taken to heart as he has expanded the franchise in new and exciting ways. I’m eager to see his live-action directorial debut kick off in ‘The Mandalorian.’ I also hope he is given the freedom to continue telling us both new “Star Wars” tales as well as be involved in entertaining audiences with more from the cast of ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ when the time is right.

Do you feel that Kathleen Kennedy is making the right choice by expanding how involved with “Star Wars” Dave Filoni is? Which of Filoni’s creations is your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
