In a movie filled with thrills, one of the most exciting sequences in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ occurred when Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) made her splashy entrance into the final battle.  After obtaining the Infinity Gauntlet from Spider-Man, she was ready to take on Thanos, but she needed a little help and she got it, from Gamora, Mantis, Nebula, Okoye, Rescue, Scarlet Witch, Shuri, Valkyrie, and the Wasp.

Prior to ‘Endgame’, ‘Captain Marvel’ marked the first solo female movie from Marvel Studios, and it delivered over $1 billion at the global box office.  Next year sees the release of ‘Black Widow’, and it’s a given that Larson’s Carol Danvers will be back in a sequel, as will Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp, who co-headlined ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’.  But will fans get to see a team-up movie featuring all of the female champions of the MCU?

Here is what Larson told Variety:

Disney

“I will say that a lot of the female cast members from Marvel walked up to Kevin and we were like, ‘We are in this together, we want to do this.  What that means, I have no idea. You know, I’m not in charge of the future of Marvel, but it is something that we’re really passionate about and we love and I feel like if enough people out in the world talk about how much they want it, maybe it’ll happen.”

She went on to discuss filming the all-female scene, saying:

Disney

“It was just a great day.  To get to be with all of those women for the day and you get this feeling of, like, almost a little bit of naughtiness because it’s a secret and none of us can talk about it — that it felt like we were a part of this like coven working together for this goal. It was an opportunity for us to share and hang out. And as many people know, a lot of the time women aren’t working together. It’s kind of been this new breath of fresh air for us in our industry that there’s more female ensemble films, which has allowed us the opportunity to really communicate with one another. So we get so excited and feel so much energy when you get to be around your peers and share stories.”

Even though ‘Captain Marvel 2’ hasn’t been announced, it’s safe to say it’s coming.  As part of Marvel’s Phase 4, Natalie Portman is returning as Jane Foster, who will become the new female Thor, and will share the screen with Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’Elizabeth Olsen‘s Wanda Maximoff will star in a Disney+ series ‘WandaVision’ before co-starring with Benedict Cumberbatch in ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness’.   ‘Eternals’ will introduce an entirely new group of characters, male and female.  ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3’ is due as part of Phase 5, along with ‘Black Panther 2’ which is expected to include Danai Gurira as Okoye and Letitia Wright as Shuri, and possibly Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia.  In addition to ‘WandaVision’, Disney+ is also introducing a new female Hawkeye in ‘Hawkeye’ (possibly played by Hailee Steinfeld), and ‘Ms. Marvel’ and ‘She-Hulk’, introducing two new female heroes.

Regarding the future, Larson said:

Disney

“I don’t know what kind of change that brings the MCU.  I love Carol Danvers so much and I love playing her and I love the way that she interacts with people and the way that she’s grown into herself. So, I’m excited to see where that goes. But there’s so many other new characters that I love, as well, that I’m excited to see and it’s so hard to imagine now where we’re at with these stories. Them existing without any one of those characters. It’s hard to pull that apart.”
