Has there ever been a television series more eagerly anticipated so much by so many than ‘Star Trek: Picard?’ Nay, I dare say, there has not. Ever since we had our last real glimpse of Jean-Luc Picard in the movie ‘Star Trek: Nemesis,’ we’ve been jonesing for more of the Captain. Countless fan sites, blog posts, and podcasts are designed for honoring, venerating, and otherwise discussing the virtues of Captain Picard and his virtues.
With that in mind, it was with great joy that we received yet another sneak peek at the upcoming series by way of a new trailer and new pics released by CBS All Access during the Sunday “Star Trek Universe” panel at New York Comic Con. Sir Patrick Stewart will be re-donning his mantle as Picard, and will be joined by a number of co-stars, namely Evan Evagora as Elnor, Isa Briones as Dahj, Harry Treadaway as Narek, Santiago Cabrera as Rios, and Michelle Hurd as Raffi. From the trailer (above) and the photos (below), we can also get a shiver of delight at seeing that Jonathan Frakes will be present in his role from ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ as Commander Will Riker (Number One!).
CBS All Access has described ‘Picard’ thusly:
‘Star Trek: Picard’ features Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation.’ The new series will follow this iconic character into the next chapter of his life.
The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers and Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) serves as co-executive producer and Kirsten Beyer as supervising producer. Hanelle Culpepper will direct the first two episodes of the series.
‘Star Trek: Picard’ is set to premiere on CBS All Access on January 23, 2020.
