Well, things might not be all rosy at Marvel Television, but at least one of its projects, Hulu’s ‘Runaways’ is coming back for a third season. Based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name, the show follows the exploits of a group of teens who discover that their parents are secretly a cabal of supervillains. Luckily for them, the kids figure out that they have either inherited their parents’ superpowers or their expertise.
‘Runaways’ stars Allegra Acosta as the super-strong Molly Hayes Hernandez, Ariela Barer as Gert Yorkes, who has a telepathic bond with the genetically engineered dinosaur Old Lace, Rhenzy Feliz as the super-intelligent Alex Wilder, Virginia Gardner as the light-powered Karolina Dean, Lyrica Okano as fledgling sorceress Nico Minoru, and Gregg Sulkin as gifted inventor Chase Stein.
Hulu has released a new poster to hype the release of the third season:
Season three will introduce a new enemy, Elizabeth Hurley as the immortal sorceress Morgan Le Fay. And the Runaways will get some help from the stars of Freeform’s Marvel Television series ‘Cloak & Dagger’, Olivia Holt (Tandy/Dagger), and Aubrey Joseph (Ty/Cloak). ‘Cloak & Dagger’s second season aired this spring, but it has not yet been renewed for a third. Perhaps if this crossover is a big enough hit, it could lead to further episodes of that series.
Marvel TV had two additional live-action shows in development for Hulu, ‘Ghost Rider’ and ‘Helstrom’, two supernatural-themed concepts. The addition of Morgan Le Fay to ‘Runaways’ seemed to tease that perhaps all three shows would converge in some way, but Hulu axed plans for ‘Ghost Rider’ last week. ‘Helstrom’ is still in development, so it is still possible that it will connect to ‘Runaways’ in some way in the future.
While many new streaming shows are being rolled out one episode at a time, like regular TV shows, Hulu will stick to the established streaming release plan, with all episodes available to binge at once. Season 1 consisted of 10 episodes, but that was upped to 13 for S2, but for S3, the episode count is back down to 10. These will be released on December 13, 2019.
