Jupiter's Legacy
Netflix

Netflix’s new superhero series ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ has hit a snag, as showrunner Steven S. DeKnight has stepped down.  A replacement is being sought.  DeKnight’s exit is said to be due to creative differences, however, production is reportedly half-way done on the eight-episode first season, with four episodes in the can.  It is not expected that production will cease until a new showrunner is found, as “continuous production and a smooth transition” is desired.  In addition to acting as showrunner, DeKnight directed the first episode.  It is possible that reshoots will be required once a new showrunner sets their vision for the show.

Josh Duhamel and Leslie Bibb head the cast, which also includes Ben Daniels, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Matt Lanter, and Mike Wade.  This is the first show to come from the Millarverse, which Netflix acquired when it bought out comic book writer Mark Millar’s catalog of original concepts.  Also in the works are the series ‘The Magic Order’ and the film ‘Reborn’, which has Sandra Bullock attached to star, following her success last year with the Netflix original ‘Bird Box’.

DeKnight previously served as showrunner of the first season of another Netflix superhero show, ‘Daredevil’.  He currently has an overall development deal with Netflix including series and movies, but some sources say that this deal may be coming to an end.  But reportedly, talks are underway between the streaming service and DeKnight’s representatives.

‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ was previously in development as a feature film, until Netflix changed direction and decided to turn it into an ongoing series.  The show follows the exploits of the first generation of superheroes, who gained their powers after visiting a mysterious island.  These beings are extremely long-lived, having gained their powers in the 1930s and are still alive.  Their kids may have inherited their superpowers, but are more concerned with living the celebrity lifestyle.
