Marvel might have just killed off Tony Stark and brought an end to Steve Rogers as Captain America but don’t expect that to be an end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon. In fact, Marvel Studios executive VP of production Victoria Alonso was recently talking at this year’s CG confab SIGGRAPH event and pretty much guaranteed that there is no end in sight for the behemoth. Even after the studio released their slate through 2021, according to Alonso, there is still “so much more to come.”
As to what we might be able to expect, she wouldn’t give any specifics though did remark:
“There are so many stories to tell. The thing about Marvel is we have 6,000 characters in our library. There will be children forever telling these stories.”
Not including rebooting characters because “dying is just a state of mind” for Marvel, we still have yet to meet the MCU versions of quite a few cosmic characters, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and thousands of heroes and villains past that.
With both the large screen and Disney+ adaptations to look forward to, Marvel Studios has enough to give us for years to come without having to even think about reboots or characters going stale.
Are you looking forward to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or do you feel that the “Infinity Saga” was the highpoint of what we’ll end up seeing? Which characters do you hope are introduced in the future that has yet to be announced? Are there any specific risks you hope that the studio ends up taking in Phase 4 or 5?
