Noah Hawley

With the Disney buyout of Fox and all of its comic book properties returning to Marvel Studios, you would think that Noah Hawley’s (‘Legion‘) idea for a ‘Doctor Doom’ movie would be dead in the water. While it does seem that ‘Gambit‘ isn’t going to happen and the various “X-Men” properties outside of ‘Deadpool’ are getting a reboot, there seems to be a chance that this ‘Doctor Doom’ story might still be told.

Obviously, if it does there will likely be some changes for it to fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as incorporate any ideas that the studio has for the characters and the ‘Fantastic Four.’ However, Hawley has admitted that he has already sat down with Kevin Feige and gone over his ideas.

“I did sit down with [Marvel Studios’ president] Kevin Feige recently, and I said that I look at myself as sort of the Marvel R&D department. I know the genre can do all of these amazing things that [the Marvel Cinematic Universe] is doing, but my feeling is, what else can we do with it? Can we make it surreal? Can we make it musical? Not as a gimmick, but all of these techniques are about putting you into the subjective experience of these characters.”

While that addresses Hawley’s eagerness to work with Marvel Studios, it wasn’t until he followed it up with this small update concerning ‘Doctor Doom’:

“I wrote a script about Doctor Doom, an antihero story I really like, and we’re still talking about making it. I’m trying to get out from under this movie I made and this last season of Legion and Fargo is coming back up… but for better or worse, these are the stories we want to hear right now.”

How much they’re talking about making it is too soon to say. With the Fox properties not being thought of to be included for a few years out, this isn’t something to hold your breath about. However, unlike the rest of Fox’s slate, we could still see this take of ‘Doctor Doom’ happen.
