Dune: The Sisterhood

Denis Villeneuve‘s ‘Dune’ hasn’t even been released yet, but that didn’t stop Legendary Television and WarnerMedia to strike a deal to develop a new streaming series called ‘Dune: The Sisterhood.’ The show will focus on the mysterious Bene Gesserit order, a powerful clan of women who have worked from the shadows to manipulate the Great Houses of the ‘Dune’ universe to their own ends.

The new series will see Villeneuve directing the pilot which will be based on a script by Jon Spaihts. These two along with Eric Roth were responsible for writing the upcoming film which will be the first in a two-part cinematic experience as long as Legendary moves forward with the planned sequel. The series will have Villeneuve and Spaihts as Executive Producers alongside Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert for the Frank Herbert estate. Kevin J. Anderson who has co-written many of the ‘Dune’ novels after Frank Herbert’s death is also set to co-produce.

According to Villeneuve:

“The Bene Gesserit have always been fascinating to me. Focusing a series around that powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring but a dynamic setting for the television series.”

At this time, we don’t know much about the series. It could be a direct companion to the films containing the same characters or a period piece in the ‘Dune’ universe used to flesh out what the order is as well as explore some of the past which would likely not make it into the feature films.

To see ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ you’ll need to be a subscriber to WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming platform which will potentially turn some people off. However, as the service will include content from HBO, TBS, TNT, CNN and more, there is a chance that they’ll be able to up their subscription base pretty quickly for those who have cut the cord or are planning to do so. Also, ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ is the third original series to be ordered for the platform with more currently in development. However, what won’t be a downside for ‘Dune’ fans is that Legendary is looking to have multiple new properties around the universe crafted which is said to include video games, digital content packages, and comic book series.

Now that is something to be excited for!
