PLEASE NOTE: This article is a SPOILER-FREE discussion of the film ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and will only focus on what’s seen in the credits of the movie.
After 11 years and 22 films, one thing about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is clear: the company sure does love to put “extra” scenes in the credits. To date, every single movie in the multi-Phase mega-series has featured at least one scene in the middle of or at the conclusion of the end credits. Some scenes set the stage and provide a “teaser” for future installments; others are just goofy or fun extra scenes thrown in “just because.”
We’re sorry to report that this streak seems to end with ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ In the press-only preview screening that I attended (and on which I wrote my review of the film as well), there were no actual mid- or post-credits scenes that we were given. Early showings of the movie from the European & China markets also confirm that there are no credits scenes. However… this does not mean that there wasn’t something in the credits that is potentially worth sitting through.

First and foremost: as the credits begin to roll on the movie, there are several “name” actors that require proper highlighting, and Marvel does that by showing each actor’s name along with a short animatic of his/her character’s “favorite” scene from anywhere in the MCU history. For example, Zoe Saldana’s name is accompanied by Gamora firing that big-ass gun from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ … Evangeline Lilly’s name is shown along with the video of the Wasp running along the edge of a knife from ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ … and so on.
The “original six” main Avengers, of course, are who the film (and the first three Phases of the MCU) is primarily focused on, and as a result, they all get a “curtain call” of sorts in the credits: each is featured with a silhouette of their character in the center of the screen as several “greatest hits” clips play along the periphery of the screen – and a silver inscription of their signature appears in the middle of the screen as it all happens. Starting with Jeremy Renner and culminating with Robert Downey, Jr., each original Avenger gets their much-deserved moment in the spotlight.

Lastly, as the credits finish rolling, the Marvel Studios logo is shown against a red background, and while there is no video or words, there is audio of an odd clanking sound. My initial thought upon hearing this is that it sounded like a blacksmith at his/her forge… could this be some kind of foreshadowing for a future moment in the MCU, or is it simply perhaps an homage to Tony Stark, harkening back to when he was crafting the first rudimentary suit of armor in the cave during ‘Iron Man,’ touching on what is essentially the beginning of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe?
