'Avengers: Endgame' Writers Are Taking A Break From Marvel Studios

It was already known that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ would be the endgame for its directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who also helmed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, not to mention an episode of ‘Agent Carter’ just for good measure.  After the herculean task of crafting the two biggest Marvel movies back-to-back, they have announced plans to take a break.  Now, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have made it known that they are also going to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at least for the time being.

Speaking to Buzzfeed, Markus stated:

“[We’re] taking a break.  [The MCU] is obviously about to have a huge injection of new blood. Launching a lot of new things. So it’s going to get interesting.”

Markus and McFeely penned the screenplays not only for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘Infinity War’, but all three ‘Captain America’ films, and ‘Thor: The Dark World’.

But one of the biggest hurdles they had to overcome was writing the characters including Black Panther and Captain Marvel before their solo movies had even been made.  At least in the case of the ‘Black Panther’ cast, they had the got to film their solo movie first, so that when they showed up for ‘Infinity War’, Markus and McFeely were able to collaborate with them to make their characters consistent between the two films.  Brie Larson, on the other hand, had to film ‘Endgame’ first, before ‘Captain Marvel’.

‘Black Panther’ was written by director Ryan Coogler with Joe Robert Cole, while the script for ‘Captain Marvel’ passed through multiple hands.  Nicole Perlman, Meg LeFauve, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet all took a stab at it, before co-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck fine-tuned the final version.  These are just some of the names that may be responsible for taking the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the future.

But Markus and McFeely don’t think they’ll leave it behind for good.

As McFeely stated:

“But, you know, it’s the best working experience of our lives.  So if they call, we’d answer.”

‘Avengers: Endgame’ will materialize in theaters on April 26.
