I guess now we know in what ‘Community’ to find ‘Fear Street’.  Sitcom alum Gillian Jacobs has signed on for 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment’s three-part adaptation of R.L. Stine’s ‘Fear Street’ young adult horror novels.  Leigh Janiak is directing all three films back-to-back, and the plan is to release one movie a month beginning in June of next year.  Jacobs will reportedly appear in multiple movies, perhaps all three.

Here is the description of the first film:

In 1994, a group of teenagers find out that the terrifying events that have occurred in their town of Shadyside, Ohio may be connected to each other, and that they may be the next targets.

The other movies will be set in 1978 and 1666, but will wrap up back in 1994.  In the 1994 setting, Jacobs will play “the survivor of a massacre that took place at a summer camp in 1978.”

‘Stranger Things” Sadie Sink was announced as having a role in the second movie, which looks to be the 1978 summer camp scenario.  Could she be playing a younger version of Jacobs’ character?  It seems unlikely, as they don’t really look alike, but who knows?

Filming began in the Atlanta area in March.  The cast also includes Kiana Madeira, Olivia Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Ashley Zukerman, Fred Hechinger, Julia Rehwald, and Jeremy Ford.  Reportedly, Madeira and Welch will play two teenagers in love, but who originate from different time periods, with Madeira existing in the mid-1990s, while Welch’s character is from the 1600s.  They are said to be “trying to navigate their rocky relationship when they’re targeted by the crazy horrors of their small town, Shadyside.”

There is some concern that the plan to release these movies one month apart may be thrown out, now that Disney owns Fox and all its projects, but no official word has been given one way or the other.

Jacobs last headlined Judd Apatow’s Netflix drama ‘Love’, and starred in the film ‘Ibiza’.  She also appeared in the Youtube series ‘Weird City’ produced by Jordan Peele.  She will be seen in the Disney movie ‘Magic Camp’ with Adam DeVine, which was filmed in 2017, but went unreleased.  It has since been announced that it will be available on Disney+.  She has also completed the horror movie ‘Larry’, which doesn’t yet have a release date.
