Rumor Has It The 'Batwoman' Ongoing Series Is "A Lock" At The CW

Though The CW has not yet announced it, Deadline reports that the ‘Batwoman’ series starring Ruby Rose is “considered a lock” for the new fall schedule, with a writing staff already assembled.  Rose debuted as Batwoman in The CW’s winter crossover event ‘Elseworlds’, with an eye on the character potentially getting her own show if that went well.  A pilot was shot and it seems that The CW liked it well enough to order the series.  The pilot is, according to executive producer Greg Berlanti, an origin story set before the events of ‘Elseworlds’.

Here is the show’s logline:

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.

This comes on the heels of news that the first CW DC show, ‘Arrow’ would end with the upcoming eighth season, which will be shortened to just ten episodes.  Before that arrives, star Emily Bett Rickards announced that she would leave at the end of the current seventh season.

With its gritty setting and non-powered lead, also known as Kate Kane, ‘Batwoman’ certainly seems like a perfect candidate to replace ‘Arrow’.

The ‘Batwoman’ pilot also starred Dougray Scott as Kate’s father Jacob, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox / Batwing, Nicole Kang as Kate’s half-sister Mary Hamilton, Rachel Skarsten as villain Alice, and Meagan Tandy as security agent Sophie Moore.  It remains to be seen which of these actors and/or their characters will carry over to the ongoing series.

The pilot was directed by Marcos Siega with a script written by Caroline Dries.  Dries serves as an executive producer, along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns.

Keep in mind, this is just buzz for now.  The CW has not publicly confirmed that it has ordered ‘Batwoman’ to series.  Check back for that confirmation and any other updates.
