In what should come as a surprise to no one, FOX has canceled ‘The Gifted’, its expensive series set within 20th Century Fox’s ‘X-Men’ film universe. In February, the show’s creator Matt Nix admitted that despite a passionate fanbase, the show simply didn’t draw as many viewers as would be necessary to sustain a special effects-heavy series like this. On average, the second season attracted fewer than two million viewers. Among FOX’s dramas, ‘The Gifted’ had the fewest viewers. And unlike other shows, for instance NBC’s ‘Manifest’, its numbers did not increase with the help of recorded or streamed episodes.

Supposedly, some close to the series are hoping that FOX’s new owners, Disney, will find a place for ‘The Gifted’ elsewhere, but don’t hold your breath. Now that Disney owns 20th Century Fox, it is firmly believed that everything having to do with the ‘X-Men’ will now shift under the control of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, who will be rebooting the whole shebang. So this series, set in Fox’s X-Universe has no place there.
Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker headlined ‘The Gifted’ as Reed and Kate Strucker, a normal suburban couple whose lives are turned upside down when they discover their kids, Andy (Percy Hynes White) and Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) are mutants, and have to go on the run.
The series also starred Sean Teale as Marcos Diaz / Eclipse, Coby Bell as Jace Turner, Jamie Chung as Clarice Fong / Blink, Blair Redford as John Proudstar / Thunderbird, Emma Dumont as Lorna Dane / Polaris, Skyler Samuels as The Frost Sisters, and Grace Byers as Reeva Payge.

Fortunately, ‘The Gifted’ did not end on a dreadful cliffhanger. As Nix stated in February, the last episode was meant to tease potential future storylines but didn’t leave fans dangling.
“I’m really happy, I was just watching it before I came here. Basically, what’s exciting about it is it’s pretty epic. It completes our season in what I think is a really satisfying way and opens some really interesting questions promising some really cool story. I’m not a big fan of the crazy cliffhanger that sort of punishes the audience for hanging on. At the same time, you want something that says, “Hey, come back because there’s something fun to do here.” I feel like we found a good place with that. It’s pretty epic. It’s pretty big.”
Over the course of two seasons, there were a total of 29 episodes, all of which can be streamed on Hulu.
