'Halo' Recruits Is Master Chief With 'American Gods'' Pablo Schreiber

‘American Gods’‘ Mad Sweeney, Pablo Schreiber, will be pulling double duty.  He has been cast as the Master Chief on Showtime’s live-action ‘Halo’ series based on the popular Xbox games.  His character is described as:

“Earth’s most advanced warrior in the 26th century and the only hope of salvation for a civilization pushed to the brink of destruction by the Covenant, an unstoppable alliance of alien worlds committed to the destruction of humanity.”

The series costars Yerin Ha as Quan Ah, “a shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both.”  The series is set in the 26th century and depicts the invasion by an extraterrestrial force known as the Covenant.  Even with a splashy sci-fi backdrop, the show is said to be “weaving deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.”  Kyle Killen (‘Awake’) and Steven Kane (‘The Last Ship’) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers.

‘Halo’ seemed to hit a major hurdle last winter, when Rupert Wyatt had to depart as director and executive producer, due to scheduling conflicts.

“It’s with great disappointment that changes to the production schedule of Halo prevent me from continuing in my role as a director on the series. My time on ‘Halo’ has been a creatively rich and rewarding experience with a phenomenal team of people. I now join the legion of fans out there, excited to see the finished series and wishing everyone involved the very best.”

Schreiber is quite busy.  He can be seen as Mad Sweeney on the current second season of ‘American Gods’.  He is also filming the Apple TV+ miniseries ‘Defending Jacob’, which also stars Chris Evans.  Considering that Schreiber and Ha are the only cast members announced for ‘Halo’, it may be a while before he is needed to film it.

Schreiber was previously nominated for an Emmy for his role as Pornstache on ‘Orange is the New Black’.  Last year, he also appeared in the films ‘Skyscraper’ and ‘First Man’.
