When ‘Manifest’ premiered on NBC last fall, it was the #1-rated new drama of the season, but the mystery series hit some turbulence as time wore on. But NBC isn’t ready to jump out of this plane just yet. ‘Manifest’ has been renewed for a second season. NBC initially ordered 13 episodes for Season 1 but extended that by ordering three more, bring its total to 16. The order count for Season 2 wasn’t announced.
NBC’s co-presidents of scripted programming, Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, stated:
“In just its first season, Manifest has answered many questions about the mystery of Flight 828 and, smartly, asks many more. Congratulations to [series creator] Jeff Rake, our producers, cast and crew who have created an incredibly addictive series with compelling characters and complex relationships.”
10.4 million viewers tuned in for the Season 1 premiere, while the overall series averaged 6.4 million. NBC’s #1 drama by a mile is ‘This is Us’, but ‘Manifest’ ranks evenly with ‘Chicago Med’ and ‘Chicago Fire’ for second. Among all shows on TV, ‘Manifest’ sees the greatest boost from streaming episodes.
On the series, the passengers on board Montego Air Flight 828 experience a turbulent trip. Upon landing, they discover the world has moved ahead five years, with all of the passengers presumed dead. As they struggle to re-establish their lives, the experience a mysterious “Calling” drawing them into a deeper mystery, involving an antagonist called The Major. The characters have also figured out that they are living on borrowed time, with that missing five years steadily counting down.
The series stars Melissa Roxburgh and Josh Dallas as siblings Michaela and Ben Stone, who were both aboard the flight. Michaela is a police detective, while Ben is a professor. The series also stars Athena Karkanis, J. R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina, and Parveen Kaur.
