Strange things are afoot at the Hollywood Bowl, where Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves filmed a video announcing, at long last, that they would be filming ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’, to be released in theaters next summer.  The new picture comes courtesy of Hammerstone Studios, and as the actors made sure to credit, “the fans” of the original ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ and its direct sequel ‘Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey’.  ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’ will be released by Orion Pictures through United Artists Releasing.

Dean Parisot (‘Galaxy Quest’, ‘Red 2’, ‘Fun With Dick and Jane’) will direct from a script by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who both contributed to the screenplays for the first two. This third film has been in the works for many years, with Parisot signing on in 2012.

Here is the official synopsis:

Following 1989’s “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and 1991’s “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey,” the stakes are higher than ever for William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. (Winter) and Theodore “Ted” Logan (Reeves).  Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe.  Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends and a few music legends.

(*Ahem*, It’s Ted ‘Theodore’ Logan, thank you.)

‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ hit theaters in 1989 and became an unexpected smash, leading to its follow-up ‘Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey’ in 1991.  Both movies also featured comedian George Carlin as Rufus, the boy’s mentor.  Unfortunately, Carlin passed away in 2008.  In addition to the films, Reeves, Winter, and Carlin lent their voices to the first season of the Saturday morning animated series, ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures’ in 1990.

Are you ready to revisit these excellent dudes?

‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’ will be released in theaters on August 21, 2020.
