Jason Reitman just announced that he was working on ‘Ghostbusters 3,’ and the auditions for the film’s characters are in full swing! It has been reported that 12-year-old actress Sarah Abbott, who worked on both ‘Heroes Reborn’ and ‘Black Mirror,’ has graced the audition room!
A previous report alleged that the film is operating under the codename ‘Rust City,’ and will center around four teenagers, two females and two males.
HN Entertainment first shared the details that included two character descriptions. One of the roles is a 13-year-old boy described as “a conspiracy theorist” deeply into fantasy, and another is a 12-year-old girl described as a “science kid” who has difficulties connecting emotionally, unaware she makes comments others find offensive.
Abbott’s audition tape made their way onto Vimeo and shows her explaining that she is working on jokes to make people “feel more comfortable.” Abbott explains why she is studying the joke book, saying:
“I’m not a machine, I just don’t pick up on traditional social cues.”
‘Ghostbusters 3’ will serve as a direct sequel to 1984’s ‘Ghostbusters’ and 1989 followup ‘Ghostbusters II.’ Franchise OGs Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson are all expected to appear in the film. Hudson appeared on The Johnny Dare Morning Show and hinted:
“Fans have been wanting [a ‘passing of the torch’] dynamic to happen.”
When announcing the project, Reitman confirmed that his film will be set in the same universe as the first two films and will not be connected to the 2016 reboot directed by Paul Feig. Reitman said:
“I’ve always thought of myself as the first ‘Ghostbusters’ fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
Sony Pictures has revealed that ‘Ghostbusters 3’ will premiere on July 10, 2020.
