NBC’s ‘Manifest’ proved to be the most successful freshman drama of the 2018 fall season, thanks at least partly due to the ‘Lost’-like mystery that serves as its basis. But unlike ‘Lost’, which meandered all over the place, only to end with one of the least satisfying resolutions ever, ‘Manifest’ doesn’t want to keep piling mysteries on top of mysteries. Star Melissa Roxburgh, who portrays Michaela Stone, revealed that following the twists of the midseason finale, some answers are coming.
“None of them know their fate, but Episode 9 leaves us in a really good place for a page turn. A lot of new things happen after we come back from the break, a lot of new characters, a lot of new layers of this mystery and yeah, it’s really exciting. . . . The new characters definitely, without spoiling anything, give some answers towards the mystery and to what happens next… They are characters that will come along for the ride with us, and one in particular is kind of there to stay. And yeah, they give us a whole bunch of answers that we can’t look away from.”
Not much is known about these new characters, but one of them, another Flight 828 passenger named Paul will give Michaela a “shocking new Calling that is different from the others.”
‘Manifest’ will return from its winter hiatus on Monday, January 14, at 10 pm EST on NBC. The first new episode is entitled “KXTA.” Here is a preview:
When Montego Air Flight 828 landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight, the crew and passengers were relieved. Yet in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years, and their friends, families, and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they’re all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds, and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible. From Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke comes an emotionally rich, unexpected journey into a world grounded in hope, heart, and destiny.
