While Disney/ Marvel may be hoping to keep an air of mystery over the MCU at the moment, wanting to build suspense and anticipation over whether their heroes will somehow beat Thanos and restore life to half the universe in ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ sadly for them, Sony still owns the rights to the shared character of Spider-Man, and they clearly are pushing to promote ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ which reveals that Spidey will be back from the dead. Not only that, but despite Marvel’s inclination for high secrecy and maintaining certain plot details until closer to the movie premiere, Sony CLEARLY does not, and has seemingly allowed the stars of the film to share some of its secrets to fans.
According to statements made by Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) at Brazil’s Comic Con CCXP earlier this year:
“It’s basically just about the kids going on a European vacation. We go to London, we go to Prague, we go everywhere. It’s just a really fun thing. There’s a lot of dynamics that go on. A lot of relationship stuff. A lot of cool funny stuff. A lot of fun stunt stuff. The main focus is for him not to be Spider-Man per se, but he gets dragged into it. But you know he reluctantly saves the world again with Mysterio. Mysterio’s a good guy in this, they’re both teaming up to kill the game, to defeat these Elemental monsters.”
While Jake Gyllenhaal (Mysterio) revealed that:
“Well there are these threats to the world, the Elemental creatures, and Mysterio is someone who knows abut them and who wants to make sure that the world is safe from them, and Nick Fury asks him to come on and help because he’s the only one who really understands them in a way. And he teams up with the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and unfortunately he has to make him become more than just a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.”
So now we know the main plot of the film is that Peter and Ned are on a kind of European vacation, Peter is trying to take a break from being Spider-Man, somehow he gets sucked back into the superhero life to stop the Elementals at the request of Nick Fury, teams up with Mysterio who will be an ally for some of the film (yet he is a classic Spidey villain, so I expect him to turn on Peter at some point in the film), and from all the suits we’ve seen online, Peter will be getting some new Spidey suits/tech over the course of the film, either from Mysterio or from SHIELD (or both).
Thanks, Sony for ruining so many fun surprises, which seems to be your game plan when it comes to ‘Spider-Man’ movies. Hopefully, Marvel is able to step in and stop the execs at Sony from releasing all of the movie’s secrets before it comes out. Only time will tell…
