Last week, a video was released, featuring Amy Adams interviewing Nicole Kidman. Kidman is joining the DC film universe as Atlanna, the mother of ‘Aquaman’. Adams appeared as Lois Lane in ‘Man of Steel’, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Justice League’, but in the video, Adams stated that she was no longer attached to the DC movies. As she stated at the time:
“I think I’m out of the DC Universe now. I think they’re revamping that. I don’t know the details.”
But now Adams is slightly back peddling. When asked about her remarks, Adams stated:
“You know what’s funny? I actually don’t know. I haven’t had any official conversation with anybody. I was just talking with Nicole Kidman about it, and I was like, ‘Oh, I guess I’ve got to be careful what I say!’ But yeah, I haven’t had any word officially.”
The DC movies haven’t been the smashes that Warner Brothers was hoping for. Only ‘Wonder Woman’ was a certified hit. The most recent movie, ‘Justice League’ was a bomb, performing worse than any previous DC film. ‘Aquaman’ opens this weekend and may help turn things around.
The reviews aren’t great, however, and it’s competing against ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ and ‘Bumblebee’. ‘Bumblebee’ is getting surprisingly great reviews, considering it’s part of the ‘Transformers’ franchise, which critics loathe.
Warner Brothers still has ‘Shazam!’ and ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ coming up for its DC Universe movies and ‘Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’ is slated to go into production in January to be released in February 2020. WB also has ‘Joker’ directed by Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix, set to be released in October, but that is not connected to the other superhero movies.
In the meantime, you can catch Kidman in ‘Aquaman’ in theaters this weekend!
