We already know that there is a variety of Spider-People in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ but one of the more fun ones will be Spider-Ham. Peter Porker was originally introduced back into the ’80s and has made a slew of humorous appearances in the years since and has become important to one of the ongoing Spider-Man stories which Marvel is currently running. Now, this hero is going to be hamming it up to add even more humor on top of what we’d typically see from the wise-cracking Spider-Man in this new film.
This version of The Wallcrawler was a spider who was bitten by a radioactive pig and gained the abilities of both. While both Captain Americat and Hulk-Bunny were introduced in the same animal issue as Spider-Ham, only Porker has lasted over the decades and is now getting his rightful place on the big screen.
You can watch the video which introduced the world to our new hero right here!
I’m sure we’ll be seeing him stop quite a few hamburglars as our heroes assemble to take down The Kingpin and the rest of his minions.
When talking about introducing the character to audiences, producer Phil Lord shared a bit about the wedding rehearsal where they met John Mulaney at who is voicing him:
“It was full of comedians and actors and all sorts of really talented people, but he was the funniest person I had ever seen. He was just coming off of stuff off the top of his head, reacting to things that were happening on stage, and he was just so hilarious. It was like, this guy is the funniest person I think I have ever seen in my entire life.”
Chris Miller agreed and stressed that this was “In a room full of funny people!” Lord continued that “when it came time to see whose voice would match to this ridiculous cartoon pig, it was a pretty easy choice.”
From this clip, it does appear that they made the correct choice!
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.
‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse’ will be swinging into your local theater on December 14th, 2018.
