The fan site ‘Making Star Wars’ recently shared some news about ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian’ that is making some waves on the internet, which is somewhat pivotal information about the new show, namely, one of the driving motivators (aka MacGuffins) of the series. According to the source (u/Xyzsvtabc) on StarWarsLeaks, who ‘Making Star Wars’ claims is viable due to the validity of earlier information they shared about ‘Episode IX,’ he/she heard the following during a marketing meeting they attended:

“I guess the Mandalorian encounters a baby on one of his missions that he is supposed to kill, but instead of that, he ends up saving it and a lot of the rest of the story revolves around their growing relationship and his efforts to keep the child safe and protected.”

The site claims this also rings true with other rumors they have heard about the series, as well as speculation about an oddly shaped backpack the character was spotted on set wearing, with most assuming it was some kind of weapon on his back that would be put in later with CGI (either a large gun or a missile like we have seen on the back of other Mandalorian characters). With this new information in mind, the rumor is now that the main character is most likely carrying that baby on his back throughout the series, in order to keep the child close and protected (which is sure to be a problem eventually if the man runs into any action).

This news also sparked speculation about the importance of the baby, as a while back there had been talk about some kind of “heir to Mandalore” being out there, and a story about a hidden child that was that heir. If the two rumors are one and the same, ‘The Mandalorian’ could be all about protecting the future heir so he could one day reunite the people of Mandalore and restore the planet and its people to their former greatness. And as others have pointed out, with where this series takes place in the timeline, the child would most likely be about the same age as Rey and Kyle Ren. This could mean it might show up in any future movies or TV shows that take place post ‘Episode IX,’ and might play an important role if Mandalore is once again a power in the galaxy while the Resistance is trying to restore the Republic after defeating the First Order (which come on, is the most likely ending of ‘Episode IX’).
