Rebecca Front Avenue 5

The cast for the pilot of HBO’s science-fiction comedy ‘Avenue 5‘ is growing as Rebecca Front (‘Humans,’ ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’) has just signed on in a key role. The actress is no stranger to television shows and has been attached to quite a few series over the years. For a show with a focus on comedy, she could be a perfect fit having won the 2010 Best Female Performance in a Comedy Role BAFTA award and the 2012 Best TV Comedy Actress for the British Comedy Awards.

If ‘Avenue 5’ gets picked up past the pilot order, we’ll see this English actress playing Karen who is described as “a middle-aged American housewife who boarded Avenue 5 using her sister’s non-transferable ticket. Strong-willed, articulate and likable, Karen finds herself becoming the voice of the passengers, enjoying her newfound power.”

She would play across from Hugh Laurie (‘House M.D.,’ ‘Tomorrowland’) who is the lead on the series Ryan Clark. Not much is known about ‘Avenue 5’ at this time, but it is set mostly in space and at some point in the future. The character of Clark is described as “the charming and in-control American captain of the Avenue 5.” The Avenue 5 is an “intergalactic cruise ship.”

Also inthe cast will be Suzy Nakamura (‘Dr. Ken’,’The Goldbergs’) as Iris Kimura. Not much is known about her character at this time, however, with the comedic talent attached so far, this does appear to be leaning much further into the realm of humor over science fiction.

The series is being brought to HBO by Armando Iannucci who is a creator of the hit series ‘Veep’ and gives him an easy in for this to be picked up as an ongoing series if the pilot can bring forward the talent of the leading actors who are now attached for it.
