Good news for all the ‘Game of Thrones‘ fans out there hungry for any news since we are currently in a VERY LONG holding pattern waiting for the final season to premiere. We have NEWS on the prequel series! It may not be much, but it does involve the title of the spin-off series, which, if accurate, could be a massive hint about what the show itself will be about. According to a recent, very informative post George R.R. Martin made to his blog:
“Jane Goldman scripted the Long Night pilot and will be running the show. She and her team are busy in London right now, neck deep in casting, and I expect some more names will be announced soon…Meanwhile, there are still a couple of other possible prequels in active development. I can’t tell you the subject matter of those projects, no, sorry, wish I could. The readers among you might want to grab a copy of FIRE & BLOOD when it is released on November 20, though.”
So unless Martin is very mistaken or talking about something else we do not know about, it seems all too likely that the prequel series will be called (as of now) ‘The Long Night,’ which hints it will be about another period of long winter in the history of Westeros, possibly going back thousands of years to the long winter when the Children of the Forest warred with the First men and created the White Walkers in the first place.
Little else is known besides what Martin posted, but that is pretty exciting all on its own, especially when you also take into account his words that the other prequel series are still possibilities as well, especially when it seemed as though HBO was only going forward with one of the shows. What are your thoughts on the title ‘The Long Night’ and what it could mean? Do you have any theories on when the show will take place based on the potential title?
