One of the stars of ‘Doom Patrol’, Brendan Fraser, who portrays Cliff Steele and voices his modern day alter ego Robot Man, appeared at New York Comic Con for the DC Universe panel. While onstage, he told the fans in attendance that ‘Doom Patrol’ would be available starting on December 12th. That… uh, wasn’t true.
It’s been known for some time that ‘Titans’ would be the only original series available on DC Universe this year and it won’t even begin releasing until next week. (DC Universe launched on September 15, with only existing catalog offerings.) Originally, it was believed that the animated ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’ would also be available this year, but it appears production has taken longer than expected and it has also been pushed to January 4th, 2019.
Fraser’s character, Robotman, will appear on ‘Titans’, but he will be played by Jake Michaels. On ‘Doom Patrol’, Riley Shanahan will appear as Robotman, with Fraser supplying his voice and appearing in the flesh in flashbacks.
It was just announced that Matt Bomer was joining the cast as Negative Man, but like Fraser, he will not be appearing in present day footage. Instead, his character will be physically portrayed by Matthew Zuk, with Bomer providing his voice and also appearing in flashbacks.
‘Doom Patrol’ will also feature Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder/The Chief, replacing Bruno Bichir who portrays the role on ‘Titans’. The only actor that appears to be playing the same role on ‘Titans’ and ‘Doom Patrol’ is April Bowlby, who portrays Rita Farr/Elasti-Woman. On ‘Doom Patrol’, the cast will also be joined by Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, Jovian Wade as Victor Stone/Cyborg and Alan Tudyk as the villain Mr. Nobody.
DC Universe launched on September 15, but ‘Titans’ won’t premiere until October 12th. The remaining shows– the live action ‘Doom Patrol’, ‘Swamp Thing’, ‘Stargirl’, and animated ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’ and ‘Harley Quinn’ are all expected to premiere in 2019.
