If you can’t wait for the new CBS All-Access ‘Picard‘ series, IDW Publishing is set to give us a new tale of one of the most famous captains in Star Fleet in ‘Star Trek: IDW 20/20’. The new book is a one-shot issue of Picard’s younger years when he was piloting the USS Stargazer. As we all know that a certain James McAvoy would love to take on the character in his youth, this seems only fitting that a comic would be created around that time frame. It looks like the perfect ease into giving us a flashback episode around the same era or possibly even introducing two Picard shows to the streaming network.
The comic was penned by Peter David with artwork being handled by JK Woodward. We won’t just be visiting Picard’s past in the book as the tale will also include Wesley Crusher’s parents, Beverly and Jack Crusher. It’ll be interesting to see how close Beverly and Jean-Luc were in their youth.
The synopsis for the book shared a bit about the plot which you can read right here:
Twenty years before he took command of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Jean-Luc Picard sat in the captain’s chair of the U.S.S. Stargazer. Picard served with distinction aboard the Stargazer for many years on his way to becoming the most respected captain in Starfleet. But in this early mission, Picard shows us a vulnerable side as well as glimpses of the brilliant tactician he would become.
Fans of the captain from ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ will likely love to see more of the character, and this is a great way to do it. We honestly haven’t explored much of Picard’s younger years as a captain and being able to see him not only before becoming Star Fleet’s finest but also in such a classic uniform should be a blast. David has written “Star Trek” for years in both comics and novels so we should feel right at home when cracking open this comic.
