Shane Black‘s ‘The Predator‘ went through multiple cuts and reshoots so it should come as no surprise that a few scenes and ideas were left on the cutting room floor. One such idea was the Emissary Predators who had been completely cut from the last act of the film. Previously, Black had shared that the only major change from the final act was to change filming from day to night to add more suspense to the scenes. That no longer appears to be the case.
At one point the third act appears to have had two Emissary Predators who for one reason or another had defected to Earth a year before the events in this movie and were here to warn humanity about an upcoming invasion of the Earth by their clan. They would have teamed up with the remaining humans at the end to fight off not just the upgraded Predator but a Spider Predator as well.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a shot of that one to share with you.
Actor Kyle Strauts shared the following shots on Instagram and really gave a good look at the military style gear that they were set to wear in the film:
While it seems unlikely that this original ending of the film will see the light of day, you have to wonder how things would have been different had they included this subplot. While what we did get on the big screen paved the way for a sequel, low box office turnout probably means that this will be unlikely to happen. I’m sure the fact that a registered sex offender was originally part of the cast didn’t help either.
Would you have preferred to see the original ending that Shane Black shot for ‘The Predator’ or did the one in the film leave you satisfied? Do you think this is a franchise that we’ll see another installment for or will Hollywood be shelving it indefinitely? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
