You can tell that Neil Gaiman must have loved developing ‘Good Omens‘ with Amazon Studios as the creator has just signed an overall television deal with the streaming giant. At this time, there haven’t been any official details on pricing or a timeline of potential projects between the two, but anything Gaiman is going to be developing already will have our attention. A master of the genre from comics to novels, Gaiman is a creative force to be reckoned with. It isn’t clear if he’ll be working on creating new content for Amazon Studios or developing his past work, but either option will be fun to see in live-action or animated form!
Gaiman shared a little about the deal:
“What decided me was how much I enjoyed working with the Amazon team on Good Omens. They are smart, gloriously enthusiastic people, who weren’t afraid of Good Omens being different but who were as determined as I was to make something as unique and exciting as it is. I’m thrilled to know that I’ll have a home at Amazon in the future where I can make television that nobody’s seen before, that’s quite unlike Good Omens, but just as unusual and just as much fun.”
As the most highly anticipated series that Amazon Studios has on the horizon, this bodes well for any future work that he does for the studio. On the network’s side of things, Jennifer Salke who is Head of Amazon Studios added:
“Neil Gaiman is a phenomenally talented writer, who creates worlds that are compelling, multi-dimensional and narratively unique. His fans are ardent, vocal and passionate and we are fortunate to bring his gifted vision to the Prime Video audience.”
While I’m not sure if he’ll be getting the same kind of budget that Amazon Studios has earmarked for ‘Lord of the Rings,’ I’m sure that with his creativity and a dedicated team behind him that we’ll be in for something special.
