Katherine McNamara will be appearing on two fan favorite series this coming season. Freeform still has ten episodes of ‘Shadowhunters’ left to air, plus a two hour wrap up movie, ‘Shadowhunters: The Final Hunt’, but all of those are in the can. McNamara has already moved on to her next project, The CW’s ‘Arrow’. She will play “Maya, a scrappy street fighter and thief from Star City,” who has been compared to “Buffy the superhero slayer.”
Though her character’s name is Maya, it’s possible that she will be a substitute for the comic books’ Mia Dearden, a former runaway and child prostitute, who is HIV positive and who became the second Speedy. The description of Maya could certainly apply to Mia.
Coming from a similar background was Roy Harper, the first Speedy or Arsenal. Colton Haynes returns for the upcoming seventh season, so expect to see his suit up again. Joining the cast are Holly Elissa (‘Supernatural’) as Red Dart, Miranda Edwards (‘The Magicians’) as Silencer, Michael Jonsson (‘Van Helsing’) as Kodiak, better known as the villains the Longbow Hunters. They are brought in by Ricardo Diaz, played by Kirk Acevedo.
McNamara has a tendency to pick fan favorite projects. Obviously, ‘Arrow’ is based on the DC Comics characters. ‘Shadowhunters’ is based on the popular YA novel series written by Cassandra Clare. In addition to these, McNamara appeared in ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ earlier this year. She portrayed Sonja in this series, which is also based on a YA book series, by James Dashner.
“There has been no shortage of close calls for Oliver Queen when it comes to protecting his superhero identity, but in the season six finale, he was finally backed into a corner and forced to reveal himself to the world as the Green Arrow. Now, Oliver will come face-to-face with many of the criminals he placed behind bars, as he makes a new home for himself at Slabside Maximum Security Prison. Oliver will find himself vulnerable in a way unlike ever before when a mysterious new enemy begins to unravel his work as Green Arrow, challenging him to redeem his name or risk losing everything.”
‘Arrow’ returns for its seventh season on Monday, October 15, at 8 pm EST.
