Rumor has it, another villain will pop up in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, but it’s an extremely shaky one. Supposedly, one of the accompanying toy lines is including an action figure based on comic book villain, the Molten Man. Then again, the ‘Black Panther’ Marvel Legends wave included Iron Man, Namor the Sub-Mariner and Black Bolt of the Inhumans and none of them were anywhere near Wakanda in that movie.
An appearance by Molten Man wouldn’t be completely nuts, though. In the comics, the villain– real name, Mark Raxton– is the stepbrother of Liz Allen. Liz was changed to Liz Toomes in ‘Homecoming’ and she was the daughter of Michael Keaton‘s Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. the film’s major villain The Vulture. Laura Harrier played Liz and there have been rumors that she may reappear in ‘Far From Home’, although that hasn’t been confirmed. If that is the case, there could also be a familial connection between Mark Raxton and Adrian Toomes, which could make his introduction organic.
‘Far From Home’ is confirmed to feature more of The Vulture, although it is said his role is pretty small in the sequel. The main villain will be Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio/Quentin Beck. Reportedly, Numan Acar is playing Dmitri Smerdyakov, a.k.a. The Chameleon, although at this point, his character is listed as just “Dmitri” on IMDB. There is also a rumor that Hydro Man may make an appearance in a scene set in Venice, but I’ll believe that when I see it.
If you think adding Molten Man to the mix is too many villains, remember that in addition to The Vulture, ‘Homecoming’ also included The Prowler (Donald Glover), The Thinker (Michael Chernus), The Scorpion (Michael Mando) and two different Shockers (Logan-Marshall Green and Bokeem Woodbine). If characters like The Chameleon, Hydro Man, and Molten Man play minor roles like those, it may not be too distracting if they put in an appearance in ‘Far From Home’.
But for now, take that with a grain of salt.
‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ swings into theaters on July 7, 2019.
