If you were hoping that there would be more heroes features in ‘Doom Patrol‘ than you’ll be happy to hear that Diane Guerrero (‘Jane the Virgin’,’Emoticon ;)’) has joined the cast to play Crazy Jane! Guerrero is likely best known for her work as Maritza Ramos in Netflix’s hit ‘Orange Is the New Black,’ and this should prove to be a role that will let the actress show off her talents.
For those who are new to the world of ‘Doom Patrol,’ Crazy Jane isn’t just a hero in the series but also is one that suffers from severe multiple personality disorder that doesn’t always work out in the best interest for the team or those who she is trying to save.
We know that the series is set to be “a reimagining of one of DC’s strangest group of outcasts” which should be interesting to see how they deal with Crazy Jane’s mental issues. With mental health being a topic that is increasingly explored in media these days, the streaming network will have a lot of opportunities to dive into the subject if they don’t just use some of the tired tropes which were previously associated with it.
Hopefully, they don’t as Crazy Jane is similar to the character of Legion over at Marvel in that she has many personalities. In this case, 64 of them where each has their own persona and superpower. We’ve all seen how beautifully FX has been able to handle this kind of a character and I’m curious to see how DC Universe handles her.
Crazy Jane will be part of the team which includes Robotman, Negative Man, and Elasti-Girl which is “Led by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder, they’re called into action by the ultimate hero for the digital age, Cyborg.” We will see these heroes “Banding together, these rejects find themselves on a mission that will take them to the weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe.”
Are you looking forward to Diane Guerrero playing Crazy Jane on ‘Doom Patrol’? Do you think that the DC Universe will go the same route as ‘Legion’ on bringing her to life or will this live-action take be completely different? Share your thoughts below!
