The ‘Men In Black‘ reboot is starting to sound more like a soft reboot as Emma Thompson (‘Saving Mr. Banks,”Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’) has just joined the film. She is set to reprise her role as Agent O from 2012’s ‘Men in Black 3’ which would allow this to be in continuity but could also easily make this a soft reboot of the franchise. With aliens involved and time travel on the table, there is any number of ways they could pull this off.
Or, we could see that over six years have gone by and things change over time giving us new agents to focus on.
Thompson will be joining Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in London next month when the film begins production. Joining these three will be Liam Neeson, Rafe Spall, Kumail Nanjiani, and both Laurent Nicolas Bourgeois and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois.
It has previously been announced that the movie has no plans on bringing back Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.
With few details surfacing so far, fans are wondering exactly what kind of a reboot this is. It has been rumored that this film will take the traditional ‘Men in Black’ trope with a seasoned agent having to help train the next generation involved. Also, it is being described as an ensemble piece and more global in scale.
Are you looking forward to this new outing into the world of ‘Men in Black’? Do you think that this will now serve as just a soft reboot to the original trilogy? Would you prefer this be a full reboot or are you happy that it sounds like we can have nods to the original trilogy included? Share your thoughts below!
The new ‘Men in Black’ will make their way into theaters on June 14th, 2019!
