Kathleen Kennedy

Star Wars” fans who hated ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘ with a passion are going to be thrilled to learn that a new rumor has Disney looking to replace Kathleen Kennedy as the President of Lucasfilm. While ‘The Last Jedi’ has had the fandom divided and ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘ flopped at the box office while being a fantastic film, neither of these seems to be a reason for the behemoth to oust Kennedy quite yet. She’s still not only been proving to bring in money hand over fist but has been the guiding hand behind the studio since her mentor George Lucas left after selling it.

However, with rumors that she might be stepping down swirling earlier this month and more suggesting that the “A Star Wars Story” movies were on hold has the industry buzzing.

The rumor was spawned by Beyond the Trailer’s Grace Randolph who is sharing that he has heard that Disney CEO Bob Iger was looking to replace Kennedy but can’t find anyone he trusts to handle one of the studio’s golden eggs. It’s also been reported that while many have already been offered the position, they have declined to take on the mammoth job. J.J. Abrams was supposedly offered the position and turned it down.

All of this being said, ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ was the only flop from the studio so far and even with mixed reviews ‘The Last Jedi’ brought in $1.3 billion at the global box office. It is going to take more than one film to change who is the guiding hand behind Lucasfilm in the foreseeable future. However, if ‘Episode IX’ is a failure you might see this rumor get some more credibility behind it.

Do you think that Bob Iger is actually looking to replace Kathleen Kennedy at LucasFilm? Has Disney listened to the Dark Side from viewers who have given into their hatred and fear of what ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ could represent for the future of the franchise? Share your thoughts below!
