Fans of David Lynch‘s ‘Twin Peaks‘ should be thrilled that the creator has gone from saying don’t “hold your breath” for a fourth season of the series to stating that he doesn’t want to talk about it “right now.” That isn’t to say that another outing is currently in the works for Showtime or another network, but at the very least it isn’t outright denied as feasible. Lynch co-wrote and directed the eighteen-episode revival which fans have fallen in love with as much as they had the original series.

While we ended up with some new questions from the revival, some older ones were answered. As to our new question of a possible fourth season? Lynch went on record to say that “Well, for right now, you could say I don’t want to talk about that.”

Fans everywhere are going to focus on the “for right now” as that could mean he’d be willing to revisit the property down the line. In fact, he seems to be enjoying what he did on television more than what has been going on in movies:

“Feature films have fallen on hard times these days. And it’s sad, but it’s the reality. I always say now; cable television is the new arthouse. People have freedom and can make a continuing story. It’s pretty beautiful, but it’s not the big screen, so there’s a little bit of sorrow in the picture and a little bit of sorrow in the sound.”

While it is evident that he misses the impact of films, this does sound like he’d be interested in doing another television series. It isn’t clear if that means a fourth season of ‘Twin Peaks’ or something else, but that should help fans rest easy as what might be coming.

As to the cast returning? At the very least one star would be eager to come back as Kyle MacLachlan recently stated:

“I think those kinds of things are certainly possible. I think we’re all just waiting on David to have the spark of an idea to go forward. It’d be a great journey. I would drop everything to do that.”

This would confirm that at the very least we’d have a return of Agent Dale Cooper if Lynch does get an idea that he’d like to develop.

Would you be interested in ‘Twin Peaks’ coming back for a fourth season or do you feel that they ended things with just the right amount of mystery in the third? What plot points would you like to see addressed if Lynch did have an idea to continue the series? Share your thoughts below!
