Fantastic Beasts 3

While there are still a few months to go before the release of ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,’ the sequel to J.K. Rowling’s ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,’ the mastermind behind the magical franchise is already getting started on the third film!

Taking to her official blog, Rowling announced she’s been planning for the unnamed third movie in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise and has even started to work on the screenplay. She also dropped a mysterious hint about writing “another book for children,” although it will not be set in the ‘Harry Potter’ universe.

Rowling wrote:

“I’ve just finished the fourth ‘Galbraith’ novel, ‘Lethal White,’ and I’m now writing the screenplay for ‘Fantastic Beasts 3.’ After that I’ll be writing another book for children. I’ve been playing with the (non-‘Harry Potter’/wizarding world) story for about six years, so it’s about time I get it down on paper.”

‘Fantastic Beasts’ is set before the events of the ‘Harry Potter’ films, and ‘The Crimes of Grindelwald’ will follow Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) and his rise to notoriety in post-World War II Europe. The film will also feature a much younger Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), whose childhood friendship with Grindelwald is ruined by Grindelwald’s not-so-innocent plans for the wizarding world. Helping Dumbledore vanquish Grindlewald is his former student, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), back from the first film.

Rowling wrote in her blog that while the filmmaking process comes with frustrations, the appeal of seeing her fictional world brought to life on screen brings her back for more. She explained:

“The thing with movies is, however frustrated you get with the screenwriting process… you go down to the film set and join in with one big glorious game of pretend, with the world’s best pretenders saying your words, and dressing out of the most fabulous dressing-up box, and what with the lights and the smoke and the music you’re suddenly in love with the process all over again.”

While Rowling’s keeps working on the script for ‘Fantastic Beasts 3,’ fans will have to wait until November 16, when ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ opens in theaters everywhere.
