spice girls

Would you “really, really want” an animated superhero movie featuring the voices of all five original Spice Girls?  You may get your wish, as the group and their agents CAA are shopping the project around to various prospective partners.  The Girls, Victoria Beckham a.k.a. Posh Spice, Melanie Brown a.k.a. Mel B a.k.a. Scary Spice, Emma Bunton a.k.a. Baby Spice, Melanie Chisholm a.k.a. Mel C a.k.a. Sporty Spice and Geri Halliwell a.k.a. Ginger Spice recently reunited, sparking rumored of a reunion tour, but those reports were quickly squashed mainly by Beckham who has made no secret of her lack of interest in returning to the pop star life.  (There is still talk that they may reunite to perform at Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle.)

But apparently, the idea of providing the voices for an animated feature is less demanding and therefore more appealing.  The Girls are reportedly “fired up” by the thought of this project and a source even states:

“The Spice Girls are thinking big in terms of a franchise on a global scale. They’re the most successful girl group on the planet. It’s just what Marvel or Disney needs.”

According to sources, the movie would feature each Girl with a different “Girl Power!”  This would mark their second theatrical film, after their 1997 venture ‘Spice World’, which set a record at the time for the best film opening during Super Bowl weekend in the United States.  In their native Great Britain, ‘Spice World’ was recently re-released in theaters to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The Spice Girls have vaguely touched on superheroic personas, particularly in the music videos ‘Say You’ll Be There’ and ‘Too Much’ in which Victoria dressed as Catwoman.  They have appeared in animated form in the video for ‘Viva Forever’ which was stop-motion, depicting the Girls as fairies.

Are you ready for Baby, Ginger, Posh, Scary and Sporty to ‘Spice Up Your Life’ again?
