The world of ‘Captain Marvel‘ is still expanding as Gemma Chan (‘Humans,’ ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘) has joined the cast as Minn-Erva!
The character is a Kree geneticist and spy. In the comics, she is pretty vital to the story of the original Captain Mar-Vell and will likely play a part either as his villain and one for Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers. Her inclusion could also be another hint that we’ll be seeing the introduction of Rick Jones into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she had abducted him at one point. It wouldn’t surprise me if in stopping the original Captain Mar-Vell they have her play a part in Danvers becoming Captain Marvel.
Not much about the plot has been revealed at this time. We know that Danvers will be an Air Force pilot as in the comics though past that it isn’t too clear what to expect. In the comics, she is a friend to the original Captain Mar-Vell and through an accident, his DNA is fused with hers which bestows his strength, flight, and energy projection abilities into her.
Minn-Erva has a similar power set.
Chan will be joining a cast which also includes Jude Law as Mar-Vell, DeWanda Wise as Monica Rambeau, Samuel L. Jackson as a younger Nick Fury who still has two eyes, and Ben Mendelsohn who will be the primary villain in the movie and likely is the spy Yon-Rogg.
I’m sure we can expect to see Chan’s character working alongside Mendelsohn if he is a Kree as hinted and not actually one of the shape-shifting Skrulls who are set to appear in the movie.
