‘Doctor Who”s Missy, Michelle Gomez has joined Netflix’s ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ as Mary Wardell, Sabrina’s favorite teacher at Baxter High, who harbors a dark secret. According to Variety:
When she is possessed by the Devil’s handmaiden, Madam Satan, Ms. Wardwell turns into a sultry, cunning manipulator, always trying to lure Sabrina down the Path of Night.
Gomez will be a series regular, along with Chance Perdomo who will portray Sabrina’s necromancer cousin Ambrose Spellman.
Ambrose is Sabrina’s warlock cousin from England. Placed under house-arrest by the Witches Council, Ambrose is forbidden from leaving the funeral home where he lives with the Spellman women. Witty, puckish and pan-sexual, he is one of Sabrina’s partners in crime, always up for mischief.
Perdomo is a relative newcomer having appeared in the British series ‘Midsomer Murders’ and ‘Hetty Feathers’ as well as the shorts ‘The Importance of Skin’, ‘Longfield Drive’ and ‘The Art of Trying’.
Gomez, of course, is best known for ‘Doctor Who’ but has also appeared as The Lady on ‘Gotham’, ‘Green Wing’, ‘Feel the Force’ and ‘Queen Bitches’.
They join Kiernan Shipka, who will portray the title character, Sabrina Spellman, a half-witch, half-human struggling with her dark side, while she attempts to use her magic for good. Jaz Sinclair has also been cast as Sabrina’s best friend Rosalind Walker, the “outspoken” daughter of Greendale’s minister.
The series is currently going by the name ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’, after the dark, horror comic book, but that may change. It’s possible the show may be known as ‘Greendale’ named after the character’s hometown, the neighboring town to ‘Riverdale’ which has been teased on that hit series. Then again, they could call back to the classic comic books and the long-running hit sitcom ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’.
Netflix ordered ‘Sabrina’ straight-to-series with a two season commitment. Each season will consist of 10 episodes. Since casting is still underway, the show hasn’t begun filming yet, so obviously, a release date hasn’t been announced. Netflix always keeps those under wraps until right before they hit anyway.
How is the cast shaping up, in your opinion? Can this show be a big a hit as ‘Riverdale’?
