We’ve all been excited for Matt Ryan returning to the role of John Constantine in DC’s ‘Legends of Tomorrow‘ but one person has us all beat – Daniel Cerone. Cerone was the executive producer for ‘Constantine’ when the show was released on NBC and loves the time spent with the character. While Cerone is currently busy working on developing Dark Horse’s Mind MGMT for Universal Cable Production and working as showrunner to Syfy’s ‘Nightflyers,’ he is thrilled that his previous creation is set to live on.
When talking about the new footage and seeing the character of Constantine continue even without a dedicated series for Matt Ryan to call his own, the producer states that:
“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an actor so completely bring to life an established comic book character as Matt Ryan did for John Constantine. Between the NBC series and his subsequent appearances on CW, it would feel strange to see or hear anyone else in that role at this point.”
While we might see that happen on the big screen if ‘Justice League Dark’ ever makes its way into production, we at least have one more episode to enjoy the character with. In fact, from what it sounds like and the early previews the upcoming episode of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ feels more like it would be at home in ‘Constantine’ according to Ryan!
“It did feel like a Constantine episode in a way. Getting to do the exorcisms again is great because in the Arrow episode there’s only a little bit of the spells anythings, and there was quite a bit of that [in Legends], and it did feel like he was driving the episode. It was surprisingly darker than I thought it was going to be, which was great. I thought the tone of it was quite dark compared to what I’ve seen of previous episodes. I thought that was great, and that Constantine fitted right into that.”
One can only hope that this is just the start of a return to seeing Matt Ryan playing John Constantine either on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ or possibly with The CW bringing the show back to life in some capacity.
Are you happy to hear that both Daniel Cerone and Matt Ryan are enjoying what was done on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’? Do you think that we might see more of the character in the near future? Share your thoughts below!
