We’ve all been dying to see more of ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘ as the behemoth second chapter of the third “Star Wars” trilogy is only a month away and today there are new images to share! It has a great look at the cast and crew and while a picture can say a thousand words – these will just have fans asking a thousand questions.
First up, we have a new shot of John Boyega‘s Finn, BB-8, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose. In it, Finn clearly is pointing at something in the distance as the two humans are getting BB-8 through the casino city of Canto Bight. As you can tell from the two behind them, our Resistance fighters don’t exactly fit in with the posh environment that they’re finding themselves in.
Second, “The Master Watches” as Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker is watching Daisy Ridley’s Rey train with his family’s lightsaber. The island of Ahch-To is sacred to the Jedi so this is a perfect spot for their training but with Luke as a broken warrior, it isn’t hope that Skywalker sees in the young woman who wishes to be his apprentice.
Speaking of Rey and being an apprentice, this isn’t exactly the situation where we would want to find a Jedi in. Could Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren draw out her anger and head her down the path of being a Sith?
Here is a shot of director Rian Johnson working with Carrie Fisher before her tragic death. Sadly, we know that the third film was supposed to lay the focus on General Leia Organa and now all bets are off as to how the trilogy will come to a close as well as her legacy.
One of the mainstays in the series is that Oscar Isaac’s Poe has become a potential surrogate son and future leader of the Resistance whether he wants the job or not, and the General is clearly grooming him for better things. According to Isaac, their characters’ relationship was similar to their working relationship as “We’ve always been very direct with each other, you know? There was just such an honesty, and it’s a really beautiful little scene that happens here between the two of them.”
However, not everyone loves the choices that the General is making as we are introduced to Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo as she believes the war should be taken in a different direction.
As to Rey’s future in the franchise, she was shown raising her lightsaber against Luke Skywalker in the trailer. Could this be the beginning of her turn towards being a Sith? Or is it just another round of training.
Kylo’s infamous helmet which so clearly stood out in all of the promotional material doesn’t appear to survive the upcoming film as in one of his rages he actually destroys it himself. Where does this anger come from? According to the actor “As with anybody who has faith in anything, it requires doubt. That makes you more resolute about how you move forward.”
There are new armored walkers for the New Order to use in their galactic conquest and here we see them on “the mining world of Crait, heading toward the Resistance holed up in an abandoned Rebel base that dates back to the battles of the original trilogy.” It sounds like we might have some familiar scenes popping up here!
Oh, and here are the four covers from Entertainment Weekly where all of these shots and likely more will be coming from:
