James Gunn loves interacting with fans. The director who broke out with his Marvel Cinematic Universe hits ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and sequel ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2‘ spends much of his time on social media, answering questions from viewers, along with sharing his opinions on a wide variety of topics and posting weekly pictures of his cat. He’s a regular human, just like you and me!
One of his specialties is hosting Facebook Live videos, where he is usually good for a small spoiler or juicy tidbit of info about future works. To commemorate the home-video release of ‘Vol. 2,’ he hosted a Facebook Live session this week, and sure enough, he talked a bit about what viewers can expect from the next installment of the film series:
“One of the things I’m doing with creating ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3:’ it will take place after the next two Avengers movies, and it will help to set up the next ten, twenty years of Marvel movies. It’s going to really expand the cosmic universe. We’re going to be setting up new characters; it will be the last movie of this version of Guardians of the Galaxy.”
This info does fall in line with what Gunn has previously talked about as his intentions for the future of the franchise in other recent interviews:
“When we’re talking about ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3,’ and that story, that’s a story that will lead to other stories… It’s innate to the DNA that that’s the end of a trilogy but it’s the beginning of a whole other element of the Marvel Cosmic universe. That’s a part of what I’m doing now.”
