In the past, footage shown of upcoming ‘Doctor Who’ episodes were treated as an exclusive event meant to be shared to only those who were able to get into Hall H at Comic-Com. If you weren’t inside that room, then you would have to have been satisfied with reading a summary of what was shown or tracking down a Whovian who managed to smuggle the contraband out. This year, Steven Moffat and the BBC have taken pity on the fans that were unable to be there and have released the teaser of the upcoming Christmas episode that was shown at Sunday’s SDCC panel!
We’ll write up an analysis later, but we all know that you are here to get a glimpse of what to expect when Christmas rolls around. So without further ado….
The ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas episode will mark the last time Peter Capaldi will play the iconic Time Lord, a role which he took after Matt Smith decided to depart the series. It will also be the last episode from Steven Moffat who has been with the series since its revival in 2005, first as a writer then as the series’ showrunner in 2009. Chris Chibnall, who will be taking over showrunner duties, has promised fans the new season will be bold and take risks, which is quite evident when it was announced that Jodie Whittaker would now be holding the TARDIS key making her the first female Doctor when the series returns next year.
We’ll keep you updated about more ‘Doctor Who’ news as it comes. In the meantime, let us know what you think of the teaser!
Janice's first memories of the genre were of watching the original 'Star Trek' and classic 'Doctor Who' episodes (Tom Baker, aka the Fourth Doctor, was her first). Soon, she was introduced to 'Godzilla' and her addiction then spread to books, magazines, movies and comics. Janice continued as a closet geek as her thirst and love for sci-fi grew and was only second to her love of baking. Then one night, on a whim, she answered a tweet to be a writer for ScienceFiction.com and the geek girl insider her was soon set free. Within 3 years she became the Senior Editor for the site. When not writing or editing for ScienceFiction.com, Janice is scouring the internet to feed her sci-fi cravings while defending conspiracy theories, protecting scientific theorems and loving all things science fiction.... and baking cookies.
