After months of teasing us with ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ and the series being delayed, we’ve finally been given an answer as to when it will premiere on CBS All Access. You’ll be able to officially beam the show to all of your favorite streaming devices on September 24th at 8:30/7:30 Central and it won’t just be CBS All Access initially but on the network as well! However, after the first episode, you’ll only be able to catch the rest of the series on CBS All Access though the second episode will be up on the same night as the premiere!
We’ll see this 15-episode released with a mid-season break. The first eight will run through Sunday, November 5th, 2017 and the final seven will start up in January of 2018. Think of it like ‘The Walking Dead’ but with red shirts getting headshots instead of zombies.
UDATE: The show’s Twitter account released this motion poster to go along with the announcement:

While the show is finally nearing a release, potential fans may already be annoyed as it was initially set to leaving docking stations in January of 2017. It looks like we only had to wait nine months until the show will finally birth onto our screens. The upside to this announcement is the ability to actually see it on the network and give fans an idea if they’ll really want to shell out the fees for CBS All Access for this singular series or if it will make it clear that they’re not interested in checking it out.
We know that CBS CEO Les Moonves Moonves is willing to believe that Trekkies are willing to pay for this premium content:
“There are millions and millions of Trekkies out there. We know for a fact that the other versions of Star Trek… all did really well on Netflix. That gave us great confidence that this was the right choice to put the full-court press on All Access.”
To be totally honest, he’s right. If we all see the pilot and realize that it can live up to the high expectations of prior series, then they’ll rake in subscribers. If, however, it doesn’t grab everyone’s attention than this will be a Kobayashi Maru that even Kirk couldn’t get out of.
