While it is clear that Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey will be the central character in ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix,’ we still haven’t heard much of who else will be joining the cast. Now, producer Hutch Parker may have dropped a confirmation on two actors who will be returning. These two aren’t a huge surprise due to their star power and box office draw but thry don’t really fit at all into the comic story arc which serves as the inspiration for this tale.
Parker was asked if Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto would be showing up in the movie:
“I’d rather not confirm any of those officially, but yes, the current story that we’re working on has that group involved as well as some of the younger characters that we introduced last time.”
Now he didn’t outright 100% confirm that they had signed on the dotted line but it sounds like the plot has them involved. While these two weren’t important to the original story arc one other mutant was and that is Rogue, who hasn’t made much of an appearance in the films as of late. While she wasn’t confirmed either he did tease:
“We’re all sorting out exactly which mutants will be part of it, and which ones won’t. It is a bit more expansive than… obviously Logan was a bit more intimate of a story. This one’s a bit more expansive, and you know the comics, so you know how and why. We’re still kind of sorting that through.”
While the story can easily be told without Rogue as they will clearly be taking liberties with the source material, fans wouldn’t be thrilled if that is what ends happening. Of course, with how little we know of this new Jean, it is the emotional impact of The Dark Phoenix saga that will be interesting to see handled on screen.
