David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are back as Agents Mulder and Scully once more when ‘The X-Files‘ returns to Fox for the 2018 mid-season. Creator Chris Carter is also returning as the showrunner, and one can only hope that it will pick up directly after the events of the last season, so we don’t have to wait long for Scully’s return. This new event series for the show, or eleventh season for any of us who are keeping track was announced to have a 10-episode order last month though the target release date was just a guess at that time.

While we don’t know if the format will be a split between an overall story arc and stand-alone stories like the previous season, we at least have confirmation on a few details:

In 2018, additional new series and events joining the schedule include dramas 9-1-1 and THE RESIDENT; comedy LA TO VEGAS; and an all-new installment of event series THE X-FILES.

The next chapter of THE X-FILES, a thrilling, 10-episode second installment of the event series, once again will be executive-produced by creator Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning in their roles as iconic FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY. In 2016, THE X-FILES drew an average multi-platform audience of nearly 16 million viewers and was the season’s No. 2 broadcast drama, as well as the most talked-about event series on Twitter.

Likely we will see the same target release date as the last season, and this will be premiering in late January of 2018. With the last season being just a bit too short, this will allow Carter to stretch his wings creatively a little. It still isn’t the full season length of old but more ‘X-Files’ is a good thing for fans no matter how you look at it.

There is once more no word if this will be the final cases of ‘The X-Files’ or a brief event which will again occur in 2019, or, more than likely, 2020.

Are you excited to hear that ‘The X-Files’ will be returning in under a year? What format do you think they’ll follow for these 10-episodes? Share your thoughts below!
