Toy News Tuesday: Bugs, Spiders, Bats & More!

We’re back at it once again and bringing you an all new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! Happy belated ‘ALIEN Day’! It’s one of our favorite holiday’s here at ScienceFiction.com, and we’re always happy to celebrate in style! Thankfully some of our favorite toy companies got in on the fun too, and we have some fantastic looking new ‘ALIEN’ surprises in store for you this week! If you’re a fan of Marvel’s infamous web-slinger then you’re also going to be pretty happy with this week’s reveals! We’ve got all this and much more in the Toy News for the week of May 2nd, 2017!

NECA Celebrates ‘ALIEN’ Day

This past week on April 26th the world united for ‘ALIEN Day’ to celebrate one of science fiction’s oldest and most beloved franchises,  ‘ALIEN’! The team at NECA celebrated the annual holiday ins tyle by giving fans a brand new NECA Store Exclusive figure plus a look at an upcoming figure from the latest entry in the film franchise, ‘ALIEN: Covenent’!

If you head over to the NECA Store, you can now order their new retro Kenner inspired 7″ scale Vasquez figure! This figure is based on the classic 90’s Vasquez figure from the original Kenner ‘ALIENS’ line, making this a must have for hardcore ‘ALIENS’ fans! This figure also looks like she’ll go great with NECA’s special ‘ALIEN Day’ release from last year, Kenner inspired Ripley. Vasquez is available to order now!

Celebrate Alien Day 2017 with a special edition tribute to the classic Kenner Vasquez figure from the early ’90s! Private Jenette Vasquez comes with knife, sheath and pulse rifle accessories.The 7” scale figure features the likeness of Jenette Goldstein, and has over 25 points of articulation. The blister card packaging is an homage to the classic as well — it’s the perfect companion piece to the 2016 Alien Day Exclusive Ripley action figure!

If the new Vasquez figure isn’t enough for you, then maybe you’re looking for something a little newer than a throwback figure? How about a brand new figure based on the upcoming ‘ALIEN: Covenent’? With the film releasing in just a few short weeks, it was only a matter of time until we got a closer look at some of the upcoming creatures we’ll be seeing in the film! Expected to hit stores this June, below is our first full look at the new NECA Alien Xenomorph figure from ‘ALIEN: Covenent’!

NECA Previews ‘Valerian’

The film is still a few months from release, but the hype train for this summer’s new sci-fi epic ‘Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets’ is building, and fast! The team at NECA has released the first preview images of their upcoming toyline based on the film, and so far things are looking good! The first wave of figures based on the film is set to include Valerian, Laureline, and K-Tron when it releases this September. We won’t get a look at Valerian or Laureline just yet, but if this first look at the new K-Tron figure is any indication of what we can expect from the line, we’re in for a solid set of figures based on the film. From the epic sci-fi saga directed by Luc Besson, visionary director of The Fifth Element and Lucy. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets follows a pair of space-and-time-traveling special agents on a mission to the unimaginably huge intergalactic city of Alpha.

The assortment includes Valerian (with likeness of Dane DeHaan), Laureline (with likeness of Cara Delevigne), and police robot K-Tron. Each fully articulated, highly detailed figure stands approximately 7” tall and comes with character-specific accessories. Window box packaging.

Spidey Goes Big

Well, it’s safe to say the J. Jonah Jameson is going to be pretty pissed when he finds out what a big deal the latest Spider-Man figure is! The team over at NECA have released the first previews of an all new 1:4 scale Spider-Man figure based on the heroes appearance in this summer’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’. This figure is set to stand around 18″ tall, with a whopping 30 points of articulation! He even includes several sets of alternative interchangeable hands and swappable eye-lenses, so that you’re able to display him however you like in your collection! NECA’s massive quarter-scale ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ figure is due to hit stores this September! Check out the full release from NECA below-

Lots Of New Marvel Legends

This week we’re getting a first full look at a whole slew of long rumored new Marvel Legends figures! We’re seeing new figures in both 6″ and 12″ scale, and most of these look to be either convention or retailer exclusives!  Hasbro has yet to officially announce or reveal images of any of these figures, but thanks to the team at Toy Ark (as well as a few Ebay listings and the Marvel Figures Custom Taiwan Facebook page) we have our first looks at lots of new figures!

12″ Marvel Legends figures revealed include both Daredevil and Thor. We’ve seen Thor before when he was announced at Toy Fair, but this is the first time we’re seeing the figure in packaging with all of his accessories! It’s worth noting that Daredevil’s packaging is a little fancier than most of the other 12″ figures in this line, which means he is likely set to be either a convention exclusive or a retailer exclusive.

For 6″ figures, we’ve gotten a look at a few new exclusives including the SDCC 2017 Exclusive ‘Thor’ Marvel Legends box set that includes Jane Foster Thor, ‘Unworthy’ Thor Odinson, Malekith, Bor, and Ulik! We also saw the Walgreens exclusive Human Torch figure, as well as the Toys R Us Exclusive Dark Phoenix & Cyclops 2-pack and ‘A-Force’ 6-Pack that includes Female Loki, Sif, She Hulk, Singularity, Monica Rambaeu, and Elsa Bloodstone.

More Mattel DC Multiverse Coming Soon

While things have been relatively quiet for this line recently (as it was full up with ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘BvS’ movie figures most of last year, and it’s full of ‘Wonder Woman’ movie figures now), Mattel’s DC Comics Multiverse 6″ line of figures is mostly returning to it’s comic roots with the latest upcoming wave of figures! The new wave is comprised of ‘Rebirth’ Batman, Batwing, Duke Thomas ‘Robin’, and Reaper comic book styled figures, with one live action DC TV The Atom figure from ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ rounding out the wave! Best of all, if you buy the whole se tyou can build your very own Bat-Mech suit like Jim Gordon wore during his recent tenure as The Dark Knight! These are due out in stores in June!

Changes Come To ‘Gotham Select’ Series 4

Fox’s pre-Batman DC Comics adaptation ‘Gotham’ is a wild take on some of our favorite DC Comics characters, so whenever we get new ‘Gotham’ merchandise it’s always a good time! Fans were super excited when our friends at Diamond Select Toys revealed the fourth wave of ‘Gotham Select’ figures a few months back; comprised of Mr. Freeze, Azreal, and Dr. Hugo Strange based on their appearances in the hit series.

When these were first announced, Dr. Hugo Strange was set to include a Doctor’s Chair, while Azreal and Mr. Freeze were set to include parts to build a ‘Gotham Jail’ jail cell, but it looks like plans have changed, and the Jail Cell is no longer an option to the dismay of many. Instead, Azreal and Mr. Freeze will include parts to make an updated and repainted Alleyway diorama! On the bright side, Dr. Hugo Strange is still set to include his Doctor’s Chair. While it’s sad we won’t be seeing the GCPD Jail Cell anytime soon, the Alleyway is still a solid backup for your display! Check out the updated release from DST below-

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Gotham!
