This is going to be sad news for fans, but it looks like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘ is going to be bringing an end to the team that we’ve grown to love, at least the iteration we’ve seen in the first film as well as the upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’. That isn’t to say that some members might be dying, but that it looks like some might be leaving the team. If this is going to be for solo adventures or just to mix things up, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise for fans of the comic who have seen the team roster change every couple of years as new members have signed on and older ones have left.

It is important to note that Kevin Feige has stated that the third film in this particular series will be directly responsible for what happens in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe going forward for at least a couple of years. It sounds like we’ll either see some fallout from what occurs in their third film or it will be what kicks off whatever major event happens after ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’

While director James Gunn has said the third film is the end, he was asked to clarify if that means it’s “the end of the team past phase 4 or is it your end of the team?”

His response?

“It means it’s the end of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Yeah.”

We’ve seen so many characters be a part of the Guardians over the years that this isn’t too surprising. The team has included a variety of members such as: Adam Warlock who is supposed to be popping up soon, Captain Marvel who is also set to soon be introduced to the MCU, Iron Man who if was in space would probably wear his suit the entire time and be easy for Robert Downey Jr. to phone in some voice work for, Quasar who is rumored to be introduced soon, and many others!

With at least Rocket and Groot likely choices to do a spinoff movie or some solo work, it would be easy to see how the team could evolve over time.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ starring Chris Pratt, Zoë Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Glenn Close takes off on May 5, 2017.
