Toy News Tuesday: And So You’re Back From Outer Space

We hope you didn’t miss us too hard, because we’re back an all new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! It’s been a few weeks since we last spoke, and boy have the weeks been busy! We hope you enjoyed what you saw of our Toy Fair 2017 coverage, and there is still plenty more going on in the industry than we can shake a stick at! As always, each new year brings a ton of new toy reveals, and 2017 looks to be no exception to that rule! So buckle in and get ready for the Toy News for the week of March 7th, 2017!

ALIENS Go Clubbing With NECA

A few week’s back, NECA announced plans for a new special ‘club’ for ‘ALIENS’ collectors! The new ‘Club x ALIEN‘ from NECA works kind of like a subscription service for fans of the NECA ‘ALIEN’ line! Essentially, you sign up to buy every single 7″ scale ‘ALIEN’ figure that NECA releases over the course of the next year via the ‘Club x ALIEN’ website, and then at the end of the year you are able to buy a special 100% exclusive figure that you can’t get anywhere else! If you’re a hardcore ‘ALIEN’ fan and are going to buy all of those figures anyway, this club is certainly a no brainer!

The big question people are asking seem to be ‘do I have to buy all of NECA’s new ‘ALIEN’ products?”. Luckily NECA has already released a statement to clarify! NECA is limiting the club to the 7″ scale figures, meaning that you will not be required to purchase the life sized prop replicas, foam replicas, or the larger 1:4th scale figures in order to receive the exclusive year end figure.

In addition to the figures themselves and the year end bonus figure, NECA is throwing in some other exclusive bonuses and goodies for people who buy via the ‘Club x ALIEN’ site that you won’t be able to get anywhere else! For starters, you’ll have access to Convention Exclusive figures even if you aren’t going to be at the conventions (which is a huge bonus for anyone who missed out on last years SDCC Exclusive ‘Newt’ figure!). The first exclusive add on item comes in the form of a special new diorama that is a scaled up version of the original Kenner ‘ALIENS’ toyline pack in pop-up diorama (which was only available in Europe)! Packed in with Series 11 and Series 12, Club members will find a very special chapter of Alien collectibles history. The 3-D pop-up Space Base playset was exclusive to the UK with certain Kenner action figures in the mid 1990s. Now, 20 years later, we are bringing this back just for the Club, and we have increased the size of the set to be in scale with our 7” Aliens action figures.Each of the 6 pieces we’ve replicated was a different “zone” of the base, like the Lab Area or Main Control Deck, and each had part of a running story on the back. When fully, assembled the Space Base extends over 3 feet in length and is 11” tall. Three of the pieces will be included with Series 11, and three with Series 12 as part of our effort to reward the loyalty of the completionists enrolling in NECA CLUB x ALIEN!

Super7 Super Sizes ALIENS

If all of the awesome new NECA ‘ALIENS’ figures weren’t enough for you, the team at Super7 has a super sized surprise for you with their new 18″ Alien Warrior retro figure! This figure is meant to be the spiritual successor to the original 1979 ‘ALIEN’ 18″ figure, and is based on the creature design from the film’s classic 1986 sequel, ‘ALIENS’.

This new figure is fully articulated and features a matte black finish with glow accents and metallic “snapping” jaws! The new 18″ ‘ALIENS’ Alien Warrior figure comes in retro style packaging and is available for pre-order from Super7 here. It is set to ship out at the end of March 2017!

All Aboard The Pork Chop Express

The team over at Sideshow is ready for a trip to Chinatown with their new 1:6th scale ‘Big Trouble In Little China’ Jack Burton figure! This fan favorite non-hero of the film features a spot-on likeness to Hollywood legend Kurt Russell, and comes packed with his handy knife, a gun, screen accurate outfit (check out the detail on his shirt!), a figure stand, and a variety of interchangeable hands. And for the icing on the cake, he comes packed with a “floating” figure of The Guardian that is also 1:6th scale! Joining up with a team of wizards and warriors, and armed with little more than his trusty knife and a winning smile, Jack sets out to rescue the girls (and his truck!) and defeat the evil magician Lo Pan – and look damn good while doing it!

John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China and its hapless hero Jack Burton have a very special place in our hearts here at Sideshow. Our new sixth scale figure is more than a piece of nostalgia to us; it’s a loving homage to one of the funniest and most endearing action heroes of a generation!

Our new limited-edition Jack Burton figure raises the bar yet again for the possibilities of the sixth scale format. Featuring a super-lifelike portrait of Kurt Russell in all of his mid-eighties glory, including a lovingly sculpted rendition of his magnificent mullet!

From the laces on his custom leather boots to the creases to the weathering on those sweet eighties blue jeans – each part of his wardrobe has been recreated for supreme movie-accuracy. We’ve also produced miniature versions of the weapons that Jack uses to great (and unintentionally hilarious) effect while battling Lo Pan and his minions.
