In a perfect world, Marvel Studios would have the rights to all their characters and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would include the Avengers, the Defenders, the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the X-Men, and everyone else. Unfortunately, Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox still own the film rights to some of those characters. And though Sony has come to their senses and decided to play ball a little bit (which resulted in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’), Fox hasn’t taken the same logical steps. But if they did, we might not have seen Hugh Jackman hang up his claws after ‘Logan’.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, the Aussie actor revealed that a spot in an Avengers movie might have caused him to reconsider making ‘Logan’ his final appearance as Wolverine. He specifically cited his desires to appear alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo as their Marvel Cinematic Universe alter egos, but really he just wanted to be part of the team. Although, he doesn’t rule out the possibility of it happening in the future:
“If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That’s for sure. Because I always love the idea of him within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there’s a lot of smarter people with MBAs who can’t figure that out [laughter]. You never know.”
It’s good to know that even the stars of the X-Men franchise want to be a part of the MCU just like every other Marvel fan in the world. I mean, could you imagine a Fastball Special with Hulk and Wolverine? Or better yet, Banner and Logan mixing it up in an old fashioned brawl before earning each other’s mutual respect before teaming up? Ugh, if only. But I guess we should never say never since we never thought that Spidey would swing into the MCU, so fingers crossed!
I’d ask if you’d want to see Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine alongside the Avengers, but let’s be real here: You definitely do. So instead tell us all the various scenarios that you’d like Logan to get into if he were part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the comments below.
