professor-x-hair

When they first showed Patrick Stewart returning as Professor X in ‘Logan,’ I instantly had a theory about why he had some hair again and it pretty much matches up with the reasoning that director James Mangold is giving us! The idea is rather excellent as it both appears to fit with continuity and how they’ve shown us an aging Charles.

We learned in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ that when using his mutant powers his hair goes away. While having the Professor have hair again “could be kind of a sacrilege” he stated:

“The theory was that he originally lost all his hair because it’s just too damn busy [in his head] to grow hair – the idea for me was, well, maybe there’s a little fringe on there, because things are slowing down mentally.”

The trailers have quite clearly shown that Professor X here isn’t the man he once was and old age hasn’t been kind to him in the slightest. If his powers and mental capacity have both gone down it could explain why his hair is starting to return. Mix that with old age which may have taken some of it naturally and it really does make sense.

What do you think about Mangold’s explanation of a bit of hair back on Professor X’s head? Do you think this makes sense or should we have had him bald in ‘Logan’? Share your thoughts below True Believers!

Directed by James Mangold, ‘Logan’ stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Dafne Keen and claws its way into theaters on March 3, 2017.
